One sign that spring is on the way is when the lawnmowers start being advertised in the shops. This year (2018) Lidl are getting in early with a 42cm rotary lawnmower powered by a Briggs and Stratton petrol engine. This mower goes on sale on Sunday 4th March 2018, and as normal with Lidl offers will be while limited stocks last. Looking at the specification and picture this looks very similar to mowers offered by Lidl in previous years.
But is it good value? I guess that is up to individual interpretation. The main selling point is the Briggs & Stratton engine.
So what are the alternatives? As I write Argos are advertising a 41cm Spear & Jackson petrol lawnmower with a 450E series Briggs & Statton engine for only £10 more than the Lidl mower. Argos also have the self propelled version of the same Spear & Jackson mower.
I was in a branch of Homebase on the 24th of Febuary 2018 and saw a display of Qualcast P41 41cm petrol lawnmowers with Briggs and Stratton engines at a rather higher price but I suspect this is down to it being the start of the season and they will be on offer in the not too distant future.
